If you are an off-piste skier do not be deterred by the small number of lifts or pistes in the smaller resorts, just look at where you can go from the top of those lifts.

Places I enjoy include:

• Les Karellis

• Valloire/Velmenier

• Val Frejus

• La Norma

All are within 30 minutes of the house

If you want to go high Val Thorens is the place. There are no end of off-piste runs from the top of the main lifts. There are also routes back into the Maurienne Valley from both Cime Caron and Point de la Masse
